Meet Emerie Grace, photographed at 5 weeks of age and just a few days after leaving the hospital. Emerie, was not only born 4 weeks premature, but she also had several medical conditions that required surgery within a few days from birth. She had to have her trachea and esophagus repaired as well as abdominal surgery. Luckily, all her surgeries were successful, and she thrived each day.
Recharda (mom) contacted me while the baby was in the NICU and she wanted to have newborn pictures done of Emerie. We discussed her medical condition, any restrictions due to her previous surgeries, discharge date, Covid precautions and scheduled her newborn pictures for a few days after she was sent home.
Emerie was born weighing about 5 lbs, but she was almost 7 lbs by the time we photographed her at 5 weeks of age.
Her two older brothers were thrilled to have her home and you could tell how excited they were to finally hold her.
Recharda asked me if we could include her “beads of courage” in the pictures. Mom explained to me that for each procedure, each surgery, each blood draw, Emerie Grace received a bead. These beads are provided by Beads of Courage, INC, and organization that wants to improve the quality of life for children dealing with serious illness. I thought what a beautiful way to honor the courage and strength requires dealing with their journey. I thought this digital background was perfect to document the first few weeks of her life.
I was so honored to be trusted to photograph Emerie and so happy with how beautiful these photos turned out and I know they will be treasure forever.
Please contact me to document this fleeting moments and have them last forever in these beautiful baby photos. Remember, the ideal time to book your photo session is a few months before baby is born to assure availability. For premature babies, they can still be photographed as “newborns” even if they are much older than the “ideal age” for newborn photos.
