I get so excited when people I know ask me to photograph them. So when Alissa approached me about photographing her new baby, I was beyond thrilled. Alissa and I have worked together for a number of years at Children’s Healthcare taking care of my other passion, children with Cystic Fibrosis. I was very excited when her and Josh married, they seemed perfect for each other. We were celebrating a coworkers’ retirement party when I found out about the new baby. Doing her newborn pictures was quite an honor for me.
Jackson was born in late April, and we met when he was 8 days old for his first official pictures. We took the baby pictures at my home studio located in Sandy Springs. He is adorable, with cute blonde hair and perfect skin. He was perfect for the pictures and slept most of his session.
Alissa mentioned to me that she wanted to honor her late brother who passed away as a teenager and to include a cardinal in the pictures. Cardinal birds usually represent strength, endurance, hope, and passion. In Christian tradition, it represents the eternal nature of our soul or a loved one who has passed. For many, seeing a cardinal means having that loved one visit you and let you know they are always with you. Including a red cardinal in some of the pictures of Jackson Thomas was a way to honor his uncle whose middle name he carries.
Although dad was not as keen on having baby in the bucket, mom was excited that we were able to capture these images!
Love capturing details, such as little toes, lips, eyelashes, hands! they are just so tiny!
A common request, baby in parents hands! baby Thomas looks so small in dad's strong hands!
And of course, I always like to do a composite- this image of baby on the giraffe is perfect for his nursery as the theme is animals! You can see on top corner how baby is posed safely in a bean bag
We are going to get pictures of big sister Scarlet in a couple of weeks when she is here for the summer! Congratulations Alissa and Josh! Love your little family!
